ABOUT plain english law
Plain English Law is a concept created by Trevor Fenton, a solicitor qualified in Scotland, England and Wales, and British Columbia (Canada).
It was also a law firm in Edinburgh until Trevor joined Shakespeare Martineau as a Partner in July 2023.
The idea is simple enough: when your solicitor drafts a document for your business, you should be able to understand every word. After all, they are writing about your business.
I work with businesses across the UK and worldwide to deliver no-nonsense support across all aspects of business law, GDPR, and privacy compliance.
As well as being a solicitor, I have CIPP/E and CIPM qualifications (Certified Information Privacy Professional (Europe) and Certified Information Privacy Manager).
Key professional achievements include:
- Merging five Canadian companies from four jurisdictions into a single company.
- Leading two management buy-outs for English clients.
- Completing share sales and acquisitions in Scotland, England, Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Alberta), Germany, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
- Establishing subsidiaries in Singapore, Australia, India and South Africa.
- Delivering privacy-by-design and GDPR compliance advice to start-ups in England and Africa.
